Uptrend – Stock prices get high and high Two days ago, you saw price making a high. Yesterday, it made another high. The same thing happens today. I want to get in! What price should I buy in? Should I buy at the asking price? Or should I bid for a lower price?
What is an Uptrend? Theoretically, an uptrend is defined as a formation where there is successive higher high and higher low. The chart below shows Capitaland Limited (C31) where it is in an uptrend movement.
![]() Chart 1 For investors, it is ideal to ride an upwards move in an uptrending stock. For traders, it is fantastic to buy on a swing trade where upwards momentum is strong.
Where is a good potential buy point? A good buy point, from a trader and investor point of view, is a level where risk is known and reward is maximized. In a trending situation, one must still aim to buy at an attractive level. MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) is a tool that can help us screen for a potential buy point. Here we will illustrate using one of six MACD High Probability Trade Setups, a full system based on MACD, to screen for a buying point.
The MACD High Probability Trade Setup we have chosen is ‘EH’ EH is a High Probability Setup indicates an entry for trend continuation. EH makes use of the extreme value of MACD- Histogram and is a proprietary setup designed by Terraseeds Market Technician Pte Ltd. Markets cycle continuously through bursts of intense activity, followed by periods of relative calm. Users of MACD High Probability Trade Setups look at EH to enter a trending stock at a point where the latter has retraced to a clear support during its dynamic uptrend. Smart traders can identify the signature for this EH move and make their play well ahead of the crowd.
Referring to the chart below, the green arrow is generated based on a screening via charting software. Here we get ready for a possible entry. For swing trading, entry is made for a move towards immediate high (see red arrow). For trend investing, exit is made until price close below the red dotted moving average.
